All volunteers will serve as “Festival Ambassadors” to welcome and assist the public, answering any questions and being helpful.  All volunteers will be provided with “cheat sheets” indicating the location of the restrooms, ATMs, parking, etc.  We need volunteers in every category that will have smiles on their faces and a pleasant attitude at all times!

Artist Relations

Subcommittees include:

  • Artist Registration
  • Boothsitting/Artist Hospitality
  • Snack Carts

Description:

Artist Relations volunteers will serve as festival liaisons with the Artists to ensure all their needs are met throughout the weekend.  Those working with Artist Registration will be responsible for checking in the artists at the beginning of the festival.  Registration runs Friday from 1pm to 7pm and Saturday from 6am to 9am.  Artist Hospitality volunteers will booth sit to relieve artists as needed.  Shifts for Artist Hospitality volunteers are 11am to 2pm and 1pm to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Snack Cart committee volunteers will be responsible for receiving food that is delivered by local businesses and restaurants for the artists.  The food will be loaded onto carts and taken around to the artists booths twice daily.  Shift times for Snack Cart volunteers are 11am to 2pm and 1pm to 4pm every day.    

     

Art Demonstrations

Subcommittees include:

  • Art Activities
  • Face Painting

Descriptions:
No prior experience with art is necessary; all volunteers will be trained for their assigned committee. Shifts are 9am-12pm and 12pm-3pm and 3pm-6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers involved with the first and last shifts will be involved in set-up and/or breakdown. All activities planned in partnership with the Peninsula Fine Arts Center.

Art Activity Volunteers work with children and adults to help craft a hands-on art project. Those working as an art activity volunteer will be responsible for guiding individuals through the process of creating art and should be comfortable standing, working with your hands and interacting with a diverse audience.

Face Painting Volunteers
provide partial and full face paintings to children and adults. No experience necessary; all volunteers will be trained in face painting prior to the event. Face Painters are in direct contact with a large group of individuals and should be comfortable painting, standing, working with your hands and interacting with a diverse audience.

 

Family Activities

Subcommittees include:

  • Young Collectors Tent
  • Artist Demonstrations Tent
  • Artist League Tent

Descriptions:

Young Collectors Tent Volunteers work with both children and adults to help guide children through the process of choosing art for purchase and directing children and parents in the process of participation in the Young Collectors tent. Volunteers in the Young Collectors Tent should be comfortable standing, working with a cash box, discussing art with children, and interacting with a diverse audience.

Art Demonstration Tent Volunteers support the artists implementing the art demonstrations as well as working with the audience to answer questions and assist in traffic flow within the tent. Volunteers will be responsible for ensuring the artists have supplies they need.

Artist League Tent Volunteers support the artists in the artist league tent as well as working with the audience to answer questions and assist in traffic flow within the tent. Volunteers will be responsible for ensuring the artists have supplies they need.

 

Community Relations

Subcommittees include:

  • Information Tent
  • VIP Food Runners
  • VIP Tent
  • Sponsor Relations

Description:

Community Relations volunteers will serve as festival liaisons with sponsors, invited guests/art patrons and general public throughout the weekend.  Those placed with the Information Tent will set up and staff the information tent, sell posters and maintain lists for artists and volunteers interested in future festivals.  VIP Tent/Food Runners will maintain and staff the VIP Tent throughout the weekend.  Food Runners will pickup food and drinks from local businesses/restaurants and deliver to the Tent.  Sponsor Relations volunteers will assist sponsors with their booths, direct sponsors to the VIP tent and answer any of their general questions.  Shifts for Community Relations Volunteers are 9am to 12pm, 11am to 2pm and 2pm to 5pm both days of the festival. 

Public Safety

Subcommittees include:

  • Signs & Banners
  • Traffic & Parking

Description:

Volunteers working with Signs & Banners will display all signage directing the flow of volunteers, artists and the public throughout the festival.  The Traffic and Parking volunteers will work directly with the Newport News Police Department to ensure the logistics of traffic and parking flow smoothly during the festival.  Shift times for this committee are TBA.

Load In/Load Out

This committee will place cones at strategic locations where Artists will be directed to unload their vehicles.  This committee will provide assistance setting up tents and displays with the Artists.  The shifts for this committee are Friday evening, early Saturday morning and at the end of the festival on Sunday afternoon.
